When MBR (Master Boot Record) gets corrupt, fixmbr can cure it for Windows XP and Windows 2000. It is the Recovery Console command that can rewrite the entire code of MBR. In a partitioned storage device, MBR is a small code that is located at the first sector of drive and runs every time, when the system starts booting up. So corruption of MBR makes system unbootable that can be repaired using fixmbr. The command needs device name if MBR repair is required for device other than boot device.
